Some dreams arrive all at once.
Others are built one recipe, one lesson, one long day in the kitchen at a time.
Today, I finally get to share mine.
Maximum Flavor at Home.
First and foremost, I thank God.
This is my seventh cookbook… and somehow, that feels exactly right. Seven has always been my favorite number.
When I turned 22, I was handed the keys to my very first restaurant on February 7. I didn’t know then where that moment would lead me. I just knew I wanted to create food that made people feel something, more like cause extreme pleasure.
More than two decades later, that dream has found its way into these pages.
This book has quietly been becoming part of my life for the last couple of years, but in many ways, it’s been in the making for over twenty years. Every service. Every television appearance. Every triumph. Every setback. Every recipe refined until it delivered exactly what I wanted people to experience: epicurean euphoria.
The little girl born in Chicago who fell in love with cooking could never have imagined that one day a Chicago publisher, Agate, would help bring this dream into the world. Somehow, that feels like life coming full circle.
This reel captures one of the most meaningful moments of my life… revealing the cover for the very first time to my parents and my grandmother.
Inside these pages are the recipes I actually make at home. They’re inspired by two decades of creating award-winning restaurant dishes, thoughtfully simplified so you can recreate them in your own kitchen. Maximum Flavor has always been my philosophy: bold flavor combinations, approachable techniques, and simple ingredients that create absolute flavor fireworks.
My hope is that this book gives you more than recipes.
I hope it gives you confidence.
I hope it makes weeknight dinners feel exciting again.
I hope it reminds you that extraordinary food doesn’t have to be complicated.
Most of all, I hope it becomes stained with olive oil, dotted with little notes in the margins, and loved because it’s the cookbook you reach for again and again.
Maximum Flavor at Home officially releases November 3 and is now available for preorder.
This is only the first page of a brand-new chapter, and I couldn’t imagine beginning it with anyone else but you.
Thank you for being here.
Let’s make some flavor fireworks together!
My Why
I’ve spent my entire career chasing one idea: that food has the power to change a moment.
It can turn an ordinary Tuesday into a celebration. It can make strangers feel like family. It can become the meal your kids ask for every birthday, or the recipe your friends beg you to bring to every dinner party.
For years, people have asked me, “How do I make food taste like yours?”
The answer was never a secret ingredient.
It’s a way of thinking.
That’s why I wrote Maximum Flavor at Home. Not because the world needed another cookbook, but because I wanted to share the philosophy that’s guided by every dish I’ve ever created.
This is the cookbook I’ve dreamed about writing for years. It’s the closest I’ve ever come to bringing my restaurant, my kitchen, and my heart into yours.
Because I truly believe extraordinary meals shouldn’t only happen when you go out to dinner.
They should happen around your own table.
Why this cookbook?
I don’t want you to simply follow recipes.
I want you to become the kind of cook who walks into the kitchen with confidence.
Every recipe teaches you something beyond that one meal. Why certain ingredients belong together. How contrast creates excitement. Why texture matters just as much as seasoning. How one simple technique can completely transform an ingredient you’ve cooked a hundred times before.
Eventually, you’ll stop asking, “Did I make this correctly?”
You’ll start asking, “How can I make this unforgettable?”
That’s when cooking becomes really fun.
My favorite part of teaching has always been watching that moment happen.
When someone realizes they can create something they never thought they could.
I hope this book gives you that feeling again and again.
What “Maximum Flavor” actually means?
People hear Maximum Flavor and naturally think it simply means bold food.
It does.
But it has never been about making everything louder. It’s about making everything more complete.
When I create a dish, I’m thinking about the entire experience of eating it. Sweet. Salty. Sour. Bitter. Heat. Richness. Brightness. Crunch. Creaminess. Aroma. Temperature. Every one of those elements has a purpose.
The magic happens when they don’t compete with one another, it’s when they work together.
When every part of your palate is activated at once, something extraordinary happens. Your brain doesn’t just register flavor; it experiences surprise, contrast, and satisfaction all in the same bite. It’s that split second when you instinctively close your eyes, smile without realizing it, and immediately go back for another bite.
That’s the bliss point I’m always chasing.
Maximum Flavor is the pursuit of culinary euphoria. It’s every ingredient working in perfect harmony.
It’s why a squeeze of lemon can make butter taste richer.
Why something crispy makes something creamy even more luxurious.
Why a tiny touch of sweetness can make savory flavors come alive.
Maximum Flavor is about balance engineered so thoughtfully that every bite feels unforgettable.
And over the years, I realized that’s a pretty wonderful way to live, too.
Celebrate more.
Gather often.
Cook with intention.
Never settle for ordinary when extraordinary is only a few thoughtful details away.
Because life deserves Maximum Flavor just as much as dinner does.
